Nexus360 Consulting Recently Met with UNOPS to Discuss the Way Forward for Advancing Sustainability in Bangladesh’s Building and Construction Industry.

Our Co-founder and Sustainability Expert, Maisha Bint Salam, was in conversation with Shaikh Alavee, UNOPS Project Manager, and Professor Dr. Tanvir Manzur, Director of BUET-JIDPUS.

The meeting followed the recent launch of the National Implementation Guidelines on Sustainable Building under the “Transforming the Built Environment through Sustainable Materials in Bangladesh” project, implemented by UNOPS in collaboration with HBRI.

A key component of this work is HBRI-DESH, a locally contextualized green building certification framework designed to reflect Bangladesh’s building context and priorities.

The discussion highlighted the importance of building a service ecosystem around sustainable construction practices, driven by the effective implementation of such green building certifications.

The conversation covered implementation challenges, including existing policy gaps and capacity constraints within public institutions. The potential solutions explored the scope of private-sector engagement to achieve a green transition and sustainable practices in the construction sector through appropriate policy tools, monitoring systems, and feedback loops. Nexus360 is committed to working with development partners and private-sector stakeholders in technical areas to achieve the shared vision.
